The V-2 Rocket Engine, technical name A4, was developed by the Germans and is considered the world’s first ballistic missile. The long range ballistic was in service from September 8, 1944- September 19, 1952. The V2 was 46.1 ft high with a thrust of 56,000 lb. It had a payload capacity of 2,200 lb and could reach a velocity of 3,500 mile/hr.
Adolf Hitler named the A4 his “Vengeance Weapon 2” (V2) because it wreaked vengeance upon a helpless population.
The Stafford Air & Space Museum is the only location in Oklahoma to have a real V-2 Rocket Engine on display.
